Funding Agency: U.S. DOE via Ohio Office of Energy Efficiency
Ohio enjoys having each of the 9 U.S. DOE designated energy intensive industries called "Industries of the Future" within the state. These 9 industries utilize almost 2/3rds of all industrial energy which comprises 38% of the total domestic energy consumed. Ohio is ranked first nationally for 3 of these industries (steel, metalcasting and glass) and in the top 10 for the remaining. EIO is charged with communicating the program to these industries, coordinating technology development activities between the state, its universities, national laboratories and industries for developing needed technologies.
